Anime: Fall 2018 Mid Season Update

Updated: Dec 25, 2018

We are weeks away from finishing the Fall 2018 season of anime and I am here to give an update about what I started the season watching as well as my ratings so far in the season. At this current time the season is about nine episodes into most anime so I missed the "mid" season by a little bit. Oops.

New Additions

Goblin Slayer

  • Yes, I caved in. With the amount of talk about this series it has become one of the most popular and controversial anime of the season. However, I'm not overly a fan of the anime. I find the story interesting, but a plethora of characters that I don't like makes it hard to get excited for each week. I imagine that I will finish the series without dropping it because I don't think it's the worst thing of the season I'm watching.

Zombieland Saga

  • Another anime with a lot of talk surrounding the first episode Zombieland Saga was an anime that I wanted to watch, but didn't think I could fit into my schedule. However, after dropping a title, I will talk about later in the article, I had room. Zombieland uses my favourite type of comedy, sarcastic obnoxious humour, and gives us a cast of likeable zombies. They band together to create an idol group with a human manager who is one of the most hilarious anime characters I've seen in a while.

Dropped

Himote House

  • I don't think this anime is horrible, but I don't think it's decent either. I have mixed feelings as the story and some moments are funny. Given the length of each episode is about 10 minutes it's okay for a casual watch. With moments of bad CG (Gigguk voice), I feel as I am not missing out by not finishing it.

Ratings

10. Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru

9. Goblin Slayer

8. Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto Dakedo Imouto ja Nai

7. Zombieland Saga

6. Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san

5. Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet

4. Fairy Tail: Final Series

3. Black clover

2. Banana Fish

1. Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai

  • A classic example of "Don't judge a book by its cover". The anime doesn't follow the synapse written for it and if given the chance will reward watchers for giving it a shot. An incredible story with great characters lands this anime my top spot for the season so far. I am definitely interested to see how it ends.

Recommendations

My recommendation for this season isn't exactly my favourite anime of the season, but the anime I find the most interesting. The anime I'm choosing is Banana Fish. Myanimelist.net summarizes Banana Fish as follows:

Nature made Ash Lynx beautiful; nurture made him a cold ruthless killer. A runaway brought up as the adopted heir and sex toy of "Papa" Dino Golzine, Ash, now at the rebellious age of seventeen, forsakes the kingdom held out by the devil who raised him. But the hideous secret that drove Ash's older brother mad in Vietnam has suddenly fallen into Papa's insatiably ambitious hands—and it's exactly the wrong time for Eiji Okumura, a pure-hearted young photographer from Japan, to make Ash Lynx's acquaintance...
