14 Valentine's Day Anime to Watch With Your Significant Other

Today is Valentine's Day and what better to binge some anime with your otaku significant other or with your pet. Here are 14 romantic anime for all types of couples to last you the month of February.

One Size Fits All - Toradora! (TigerxDragon, J.C. Staff)

  • Toradora! is about our male protagonist, Ryuuji and female protagonist, Taiga helping each other get with their best friends. While attempting to do so, the two spend a lot of time together and expose each other to different sides of themselves.

In Your Feels - Lovely Complex (Love Com, Toei Animation)

  • Lovely Complex features a bunch of likeable characters including our main two, Risa and Atsushi. Both are trying to find their ideal partner, but tides turn when their crushes fall in love with each other. The two help each other to get over their crushes and notice different things about the other. Bring out the tissue box for this one

Polyamorous (Female Harem) - High School DxD (HSDxD, TNK)

  • High School DxD follows Issei a high school boy who dreams about his own harem. Finally landing a date, it goes south after his girlfriend ends up being a fallen angel. Issei ends up being killed by her, but is resurrected by Rias a demon girl, to serve her. His new life begins featuring Rias and the other demon girls of the Occult Research club.

Polyamorous (Male Harem) - Ouran Koukou Host Club (Ouran High School Host Club, Bones)

  • Haruhi is a girl attending Ouran High School as a freshman student. While studying for a place to study she breaks a vase. Being a prestigious school and herself, a commoner, she is unable to pay the 8 million yen it's worth. To make up for her accident, she has to work for the Host Club alongside the other host boys.

Realists Couple - Kuzu no Honkai (Scum's Wish, Sentai Filmworks)

  • Scum's Wish brings us the harsh side of reality that not all relationships are perfect. Hanabi and Mugi are the main couple, but are only together because they both feel trapped. Both are in love with other people and are only together because they cannot be with their primary love interests. Hanabi and Mugi use each other to substitute the person that they love, but things get complicated when they get involved with their primary interests relationships.

High School Couple - Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet (Boarding School Juliet, LIDENFILMS)

  • Boarding School Juliet just recently finished airing during Fall 2018 and is my pick for high school couple. Romio Inuzuka, a delinquent boy and leader of the black dogs, and Juliet Persia, leader of the white cats, run the two factions at Dahlia Academy. While the two factions hate each other, Inuzuka and Persia fall in love with each other. Trying to keep their relationship a secret the two remain rivals in public and lovers in private until their secret gets out.

Yuri Couple - Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom Into You, TROYCA)

  • Yuu has always wanted a love confession to get that feeling of glee in her heart, but when a classmate confesses his love to her she doesn't feel anything. Filled with despair she meets Touko the student class president and asks for her help. This leads to Touko being Yuu's next confession and the anime follows their relationship.

Yaoi Couple - No.6 (Number Six, Bones)

  • Personally I haven't seen this anime yet, but when consulting with fellow otaku this was the clear recommendation for yaoi anime. Myanimelist describes the anime as the following:

  • Many years ago, after the end of a bloody world war, mankind took shelter in six city-states that were peaceful and perfect... at least on the surface. However, Shion—an elite resident of the city-state No. 6—gained a new perspective on the world he lives in, thanks to a chance encounter with a mysterious boy, Nezumi. Nezumi turned out to be just one of many who lived in the desolate wasteland beyond the walls of the supposed utopia. But despite knowing that the other boy was a fugitive, Shion decided to take him in for the night and protect him, which resulted in drastic consequences: because of his actions, Shion and his mother lost their status as elites and were relocated elsewhere, and the darker side of the city began to make itself known.

Gamer Couple - No Game No Life (NGNL, Madhouse)

  • You've probably heard of this title and more than likely have probably already seen it, but if you haven't now is a good excuse to. The story follows Sora and Shiro two non-blood related siblings who leave their 'NEET' lifestyle and venture into the world of Disboard. Together they try to become the leaders of their faction, while staying true to each other. This one's a bit of a stretch on the romance side...

Sports Couple - Cross Game (Cross Game, SynergySP)

  • This one is for the sports fans weather you like baseball or not. The anime follows Kou and Aoba who hang out at a batting centre owned by Aoba's family. Aoba is a pitcher and Kou has always had an interest in baseball, but wont admit it. He trains privately to be like Aoba.

Supernatural Couple - Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai (Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, Cloverworks)

  • Another recently aired title from Fall 2018, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai was one of the top rated anime of 2018. Sakuta has interactions with different girls in arc format as they deal with 'Puberty Syndrome'. This syndrome deals with the social, psychological, and physical problems adolescent youth go through in high school. The story highlights Sakuta Azusagawa and Mai Sakurajima and their relationship today.

Music Couple - Nana (Nana, Madhouse)

  • Nana centres around two girls named Nana who are complete opposites. One Nana is a punk rocker who performs on stage in a band, and the other a ditsy clingy romanticist. The two girls end up meeting each other and end up becoming roommates. The anime reminds us that sometimes opposites do attract.

Romantic Comedy - Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun, Sentai Filmworks)

  • Every list needs a Rom-Com right? Monthly Girls follows Chiyo who is madly in love with Nozaki. When she confesses his love to him things don't go the way she planned. After one thing leading to another, she becomes the assistant to Nozaki, an established Manga writer.

Incestuous Couple - Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (OreImo - My Little Sister Can't Be this Cute, AIC Build)

  • Look. I don't judge. I'm sure theres some people out there that can probably relate to this category so it's here. While I do not, I will be the first to say that some incest romantic anime are some of the best story telling I've seen. Season one of OreImo isn't anything amazing, but if you can make it to season two you'll be very much rewarded.

Honourable Mention - Clannad: After Story

  • I am putting Clannad: After Story as an honourable mention for a few reasons. The first being that I think it's a wonderful display of romance that you don't get in Clannad. Since it's a sequel it would require you to watch Clannad which I feel is more of a harem romantic series since it's based on a visual novel. I also feel that it gets out-shined, by HSDxD. However, if you are caught up to season two I highly recommend it.
